The last day will be spent in Umbria. Before circling Lake Trasimeno with a stop for a drink. The view from here with Monte Amiata in the background is spectacular. Is possible to look out over the lake. Then we turn towards Assisi. St. Francis’s city rising majestically before us, of the top of the hill. A visit to the Basilica of St. Francis and St. Clare is a must, as is a wander through the streets of the old city.
Lunch can be in one of the characteristic venues in the old part. Our way back takes us across the entire Umbrian valley to get back into Tuscany, reached by going along a very sinuous road. We could stop for a reviving bathe in the hot springs. The road now snakes along the spur between two valleys with Monte Amiata in the background. There will be time to relax on returning to the hotel before dinner, and a characteristic Umbrian wine, Sagrantino, will be served with it.
