Perazzeta is without doubt one of the most prestigious estates making Montecucco DOC. Alessandro Bocci, his wife Rita and their daughter Sara, not to mention his father Erio, make one of the most interesting wines round here.Their beautiful vineyard on the hill facing Montenero produces wonderful grapes which are then made with great care into wine in their small cellar. Here, the latest wine making techniques and the setting of an old historic building go hand in hand; it is an experience to go into the fifteenth century cellar.Their best wines are undoubtedly ‘Licurgo’, a Montecucco Sangiovese Reserve and the ‘Terre Dei Bocci’, the estate’s cru. |

Il Castello di Potentino is a fascinating estate in the country near Seggiano. An old castle dating back to the Middle Ages, it has been completely restored by an English family. It is surounded by vineyards, with delightful villages perched on the distant hills and the great mass of Monte Amiata dominating everything. It is wonderful to look at the surrounding vineyard in its thousands of autumn colours. Charlotte Greene, the chatelaine, produces excellent quality wines. Of these the ‘Sacromonte’, a Montecucco DOC, made using only the most traditional methods for both fermentation and ageing, both of which take place in huge wooden barrels, is the best. We must not forget her olive oil, and grappa, both the traditional one and the Reserve, distilled by Maestro Nannoni |

The Banfi estate is one of the biggest producers in Montalcino’s territory.The estate was started in the second half of the eighties for the Italo-American family Mariani.In making wine it combines traditional methods with the mostexclusive winemaking technology. It is possible to visit the cellars - among the largest in the world, where its wines are produced, and the wine shop in the Castle, the Company’s headquarters, where wines can be tasted and bought.There is also a GlassMuseum there where you can follow the history of making bottles for wine from Etruscan times to the present day. |
