We start off going down towards the Montecucco area, passing medioval village of which are worth a quick visit. We reach, the capital of Montecucco DOC .Here, having booked, it will be possible to visit extremely interesting estates and see their refined vinification processes and old medieval cellars. After we shall turn towards the mountain to go to the stupendous sulphurous springs at Saturnia. Pausing in a castle, before continuing to Saturnia where we can have a reviving bathe.
It is really delicious to soak in the pools below the spectacular waterfalls. We shall leave once again for the Etruscan area and visit Pitigliano, Sovana and Sorano in rapid succession, with their houses hewn out of the living rock and their incredible necropoli.
Next we shall cross the old mining zone of Amiata. The last visit is to the Pieve (parish church) of Santa Fiora and Santa Lucilla with its precious della Robbia terracotta, the old enclosed convent and the fish pond fed by the spring and surrounded by a wonderful garden, which used to belong to the Aldobrandeschis and the Sforzas is well worth while.
An aperitive in the square, known as Amiata’s drawing room is a must. Return to the hotel where an evening of traditional local dishes accompanied by white wine from Pitigliano and red Morellino di Scansano awaits us.
