A tour of Tuscany really has to include some of the famous medieval cities. We have chosen San Gimigniano and leave out Siena which could be visited on your way to or from Monte Amiata. We then pass, on our way along the marvellous roads of the northern Maremma, stopping to visit the Abbey of San Galgano with its famous sword in the stone. Then on to Colle Val d’Elsa, birthplace of the great medieval architect Arnolfo di Cambio where we can have lunch. After we reach San Gimigniano, the city of towers, where a short stop is obilgatory. We have now reached the halfway point of today’s trip and we turn back, crossing an area which produces geothermal energy.

Great steaming geysers, known worldwide, create a surreal landscape with wonderful roads for bikers. Having passed this area the road takes us through scrub land, where you must proceed cautiously till we get back to the road we used when we set out which will bring us back for a well earned rest before a wonderful dinner.
